70% of children quit Sport by 13 years old. 😱
...and TWICE as many girls quit than boys. 💔
This makes providing it tricky. Sometimes, we need to get creative to keep them playing. Fortunately, we've learned a few things doing it year after year! First, we ask for your patience if you are newer to Teen Soccer. It will not be like it was when they were 10-12.
Nothing will ever again...Sorry.😉Â
They've all learned in Health Class that staying active is the best thing for their bodies and their brains as teens. They don't need to be told, though. They just need to enjoy it for themselves.
They need to be supported and to feel safe playing regardless of the level and the format.Â
What is it?
"...is for the player who enjoys the game, wants to stay fit and play soccer with their friends, but does not want to commit to increased training or travel. Players in this pathway are likely to train once per week and play once per week or only play matches. Soccer in this pathway will most likely occur within a club (i.e., house league) or at a local level between neighbouring clubs or communities, which would mean more travel than traditional house league. It could also occur as part of a District League, which would mean more travel again but still considered Recreational. A player at this level could also move between this level and the Competitive for Life pathway, depending on his/her development and advancement as a player."Â Ontario Soccer

At NorWest, we offer both male and female Soccer for Life leagues. They are run for both the fitness & social benefits of our local teens. We stress fun and good sportsmanship at this level. All matches are officiated by CSA Match Officials, and games follow Ontario Soccer's Small-sided Game rules.Â
In the spirit of promoting Sport for Life, this league is focused on building social connections for lasting participation in sport. In short, fun over fame.Â
Competitive participants (players, coaches, & spectators) should consider other options. Aggressive play, language, & coaching directed at any player, team official, referee, or spectator will not be tolerated. As per our code of conduct, refunds will not be provided for dismissal due to unsporting conduct - including cheating, whining, & temper tantrums...
We have seen it all in teen soccer & aim to protect the dignity of the league for players with respect for it.

In 2024, we had six U14 Boys teams & four U14 Girls teams.Â
Should registration be too low to sustain at least a 7v7 house league of 4 teams, we will offer players a full refund, or they can choose to participate in one night of practice & one scrimmage night per week. This was applied to our U14 girls' program three seasons ago. It is a little less conventional than a traditional league but still offers players physical & social activity weekly - and they seem to love it.
Parents: Ideally, it will keep them playing until they can participate in our High Schooler league (below), which is always a great success! Too often, young teens leave a sport at 13-14 and feel like they "don't play soccer anymore", so they lack the confidence to return to it in high school.
Our goal for our U14 program is to keep them moving for these rocky couple of years in hopes that they can continue into our popular High Schooler program (outlined far below) and on into Sport for Life!

The nature of this program is that it's often delayed in starting due to the nature of the common teen... As much as we would LOVE to start this program in mid-May, they often are slow to register. 🤷
Because we value teen activity (sometimes more than they seem to), we often delay the start of the season until we have at least 40 registrations. If this happens, we also delay the official season's end and run longer (weather permitting).Â
Your patience with us and nagging of them is appreciated. 💚

We try hard not to make changes to the outline above, but final division schedules are determined by player registrations annually and sometimes necessitate changes. Late player registrations can mean spring schedule changes.
We aim to publish full schedules the week of May 1st annually in your PowerUp Member Zone Calendar.
