70% of children quit sports by the age of 13...and TWICE as many girls quit as boys. 💔
This makes providing it tricky. Sometimes, we need to get creative to keep them playing. Fortunately, we've learned a few things doing it year after year! First, we ask for your patience if you are new to Teen Soccer. It will not be like it was when they were 10-12.
Nothing will ever again...Sorry.😉Â
They've all learned in Health Class that staying active is the best thing for their bodies and their brains as teens. They don't need to be told, though. They just need to enjoy it for themselves.
They need to be supported and to feel safe playing regardless of the level and the format.Â
"...is for the player who enjoys the game, wants to stay fit and play soccer with their friends, but does not want to commit to increased training or travel. Players in this pathway are likely to train once per week and play once per week or only play matches. Soccer in this pathway will most likely occur within a club (i.e., house league) or at a local level between neighbouring clubs or communities, which would mean more travel than traditional house league. It could also occur as part of a District League, which would mean more travel again but still considered Recreational. A player at this level could also move between this level and the Competitive for Life pathway, depending on his/her development and advancement as a player."Â Ontario Soccer

At NorWest, we offer both boys & girls teams. They are run for both the fitness & social benefits of our local teens. In the spirit of promoting Sport for Life, these teams are focused on building social connections for lasting participation. In short, fun over fame.Â
Competitive participants (players, coaches, & spectators) should consider other options. Aggressive play, language, & coaching directed at any player, team official, referee, or spectator will not be tolerated. As per our code of conduct, refunds will not be provided for dismissal due to unsporting conduct - including cheating, whining, & temper tantrums...
We have seen it all in teen soccer & aim to protect the dignity of the league for players with respect for it.
The Elgin Middlesex District Soccer League (EMDSL) hosts teams in three tiers for teens:
Tier 1 - Competitive
Tier 2 - Intermediate
Tier 3 - Recreational localized travel up to 1hr.
Since so many children quit sport by 13, it becomes nearly impossible to run a house league. This way, clubs don't need 4+ teams to offer play.
Clubs can enter teams into the EMDSL so teens can continue playing.
We will enter as many teams as registration permits before March Break!
PLEASE register your Expression of Interest at the link at the top of the page by March 1st for your teen to play so we know how many teams to enter in the Tier 3 EMDSL.
$275-$300:
Uniform: jersey, shorts, socks,
Field rental for Home games & practices,
League fees,
Referee fees,
Provincial registration fees,
Open to teams that want to play against other district clubs at the recreational level.
Two qualified (police check & 2 online courses) adult coaches are required at all games.
Played in an 11v11 in 75-90m format.
Practices & Home Games will be local to the NorWest Soccer area.Â
Travel to other clubs for Away Games is required.
Distance is determined by the other teams that enter the league, but it may be up to an hour away.
Player & coach registration will determine our final teams.
PLEASE register your Expression of Interest ASAP so we know how many teams to prepare for your kids.
There is no fee for your Expression of Interest registration.
Fees will be due when teams are set, approximately April 1.

We try hard not to make changes to the outline above, but final division schedules are determined by player registrations annually and sometimes necessitate changes. Late player registrations can mean spring schedule changes.
We aim to publish full schedules the week of May 1st annually in your PowerUp Member Zone Calendar.
